Tolkien Society: gli Atti della conferenza del 2012


Nel 2012, la Tolkien Society organizzò in occasione del 75° anniversario della pubblicazione de Lo Hobbit, la conferenza di cinque giorni Return of the Ring: Celebrating Tolkien in 2012 che si tenne dal 16 al 20 agosto presso la Loughborough University.
Un evento al quale parteciparono circa 500 appassionati provenienti da tutto il mondo e che è risultato tra i più grandi eventi tolkieniani e che ha seguito la scia di altri due importanti eventi celebrativi del 1992 e 2005, rispettivamente il centenario della nascita di Tolkien e il 50° anniversario della pubblicazione del Signore degli Anelli.

Pochi autori del XX secolo possono competere con J. R. R. Tolkien. Più di tre quarti di secolo dopo la pubblicazione de Lo Hobbit nel 1937, le sue opere continuano ad affascinare milioni di lettori in tutto il mondo. Il primo volume si concentra principalmente sulla vita di Tolkien, esaminando l'influenza della guerra, la filosofia, la religione e la sua mitologia. Il secondo volume è molto più diversificato, e copre temi quali il medievalismo e il romanticismo fino alla fantasy e modernità.
